Are you an avid collector of baseball cards or comic books? If so, be sure to attend the Baseball Card and Comic Show sponsored by the Brooklyn Park Security Patrol from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 601 Hammonds Lane. Admission is $1 a person. The first 200 paying customers will receive free grab bags. Rental tables are available for $20 for a 6-foot table, $25 for an 8-foot table. The Old Brooklyn Park Improvement Association will resume its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Brooklyn Park Elementary School cafeteria, 200 14th Ave. The dues are $4 a family, and the community is invited.

Belle Grove Elementary School news: A volunteer orientation is planned for 8:15 a.m. Friday. Anyone interested in volunteering at the school is invited to attend.

Brooklyn Park Elementary School news: The kickoff day for the fall fund-raiser is Wednesday. Students will sell candies, cookies, wrapping paper and novelties. Help support the school with your purchases.

Park Elementary School news: Once again, children can earn a chance to attend the La Fontaine Bleu Luncheon at the end of the school year. Last June, 261 students attended because they had perfect attendance, made the honor roll or had earned straight 1's on their report cards. First- through sixth-graders are eligible to participate.

North County High School news: Band and band front members are selling Joe Corbi pizzas and fresh cold-cut subs. Pizza kits contain the ingredients to make three 12-inch pizzas and are available with cheese, sausage or pepperoni. Whole wheat and white pizza also are available. Orders may be picked up on Oct. 9.

Giant Food is offering its "Apples for the Students" program for schools. Participating schools collect Giant cash register receipts and exchange them for computers, software and other educational equipment. So, drop off your cash register receipts to your local school.

The Belle Grove community is forming a Block Parent Program, which identifies "safe" houses for children who encounter danger on neighborhood streets. Block parent houses are identified by a sticker in the windows or doors. Block parents must be home in the mornings when children go to school or in the afternoons when they come home. The Brooklyn Park Elementary School PTA will sponsor an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in the school cafeteria. Ice cream cones, double-scoop sundaes and homemade baked goods will be sold. Grab bags for the children also will be available. Bring your family and friends and enjoy this social event.

The Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association and the Linthicum-Ferndale and Anne Arundel Optimists will sponsor the North County Fall Soccer Tournament. Games will be played between Nov. 1 and Nov. 22. The boys' age divisions are under 8 through under 15, under 17 and under 19. The girls' age groups are under 10, under 11, under 13, under 15, under 17 and under 19. Registration is $160 a team, and the deadline is Oct. 15. If you sold raffle tickets for the Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association's baseball-softball season and are eligible for a prize, pick it up at the Sugar Shack. Hours are 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Brooklyn United Methodist Church, Fourth Street and Pontiac Avenue, will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Oct. 10. Church member Marty Lucas will kick off the celebration on Sunday by preaching at the 10:15 a.m. worship service. Current and former members are invited to attend. Arundel Improvement Association news: CASOS (County Administered Senior Opportunity and Services) will resume its regular schedule at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow. Plans for the bus trip to the Carroll County Fall Festival will be discussed. The trip is scheduled for Oct. 10. Tickets are $7.50 and include bus transportation and festival admission.
