September 17, 1993

A man in his 30s was shot numerous times while riding in a car yesterday and died minutes after a friend drove him to Liberty Medical Center in the bullet-riddled automobile, police said.

Police withheld the victim's name pending notification of his relatives. He was rushed into the hospital emergency room, where he was pronounced dead, police said. At least five bullet holes were visible on the car's windshield.

The shooting occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at West North Avenue and Ashburton Street, where an unidentified man opened fire on the car, police said.

The victim's friend, who was driving, was not injured, police said.

Police said the homicide was the 250th of the year, compared with 235 at this time last year.
