State opens 2 sites for deer hunt

Two state-managed areas in Carroll County will be opened for white-tail deer hunting this season.

Hunters with permits will be allowed on the 400 acres in two areas of Morgan Run Natural Environment Area off Route 97 and the 120-acre Henryton tract southeast of Sykesville.

Permits will be issued for the period of Nov. 1 through Nov. 27 by public lottery. Beginning Monday, individuals may mail or hand-deliver index cards from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to Patapsco Valley State Park Headquarters, 8020 Baltimore National Park, Ellicott City, Md. 21043. The mailed cards should be marked to the attention of the Patapsco Managed Hunter Program or the Morgan Run Managed Hunting Program.

The cards must contain the hunter's name, address, daytime telephone number, hunting license number and up to three choices of dates the hunter would like to hunt, listed in order of preference.

Hunting will take place Wednesdays through Saturdays at Morgan Run. No hunting will be permitted Sundays through Tuesdays.

Bow hunting will be permitted Nov. 1 through Nov. 26 and muzzleloader hunting Nov. 27 through Dec. 11. Ten permits per day will be issued.

L Only 14 hunters per day will be allowed to hunt at Henryton.

There will be no Sunday hunting in these areas.

A hunter may obtain permits for two people by submitting photocopies of licenses and stamps.

Hunters must submit separate index cards for the bow and the muzzleloader lotteries.

After the lotteries, permits for the remaining season dates will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scoutings or sight-ins will be permitted only between sunrise and sunset. Sundays are recommended. No weapons are carried for this purpose.

Parking will be permitted only in designated areas.
