Merkson earns associate

Leslie S. Merkson of The Harleysville Insurance Company's Chesapeake branch in Columbia has earned her Associate in Underwriting from the Insurance Institute of America.

Before joining Harleysville in 1990 as an underwriting technician, Ms. Merkson, a Cooksville resident, worked as an underwriting assistant for CIGNA in Columbia.

Riember elected Chamber president

Michael G. Riemer of Columbia has been elected president of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce effective this month.

Mr. Riemer has been president of the Howard County Chapter of the Home Builders Association of Maryland for two years, chairman of the Harper's Choice Village Board for five years and president of the Rotary Club of Columbia.

He also has served on the board of directors for the Howard County Housing Alliance, Columbia Forum, Howard County Economic Forum and the Howard County Association for Retarded Citizens.

Samuels to serve on podiatry board

Dr. David Samuels, a podiatrist with a private practice in Catonsville, has been elected to the executive board of the Maryland Podiatric Medical Association in Sykesville.

Dr. Samuels also is affiliated with Bon Secours Hospital, Greater Baltimore Medical Center and St. Agnes Surgery Center.

Colvin named KAI sales manager

Joanne Colvin of American Properties has been appointed sales manager for KAI Custom Homes, a home builder based in && Turf Valley Overlook in Ellicott City.

Ms. Colvin was recognized in 1988 as sales person of the year by the Howard County Association of Realtors.

Lawyer opens Ellicott City office

Attorney Susan Demyan Demianchik has announced the opening of her Ellicott City law office at 8455 Baltimore National Pike, Suite B.

Ms. Demyan's practice will concentrate in tax law.

She has been employed with the Maryland Income Tax Division, the Maryland Retail Sales Tax Division, MNC Financial and Arthur Andersen.
