September 16, 1993

Callers pledged almost 1.4 million hours of volunteer time to Maryland public schools during Maryland Public Television's "Project Reach Out" telethon last week.

Rita Moreno was guest artist at the sixth annual event last Thursday night. Portions of the show, televised live from MPT's Owings Mills studios, were also telecast on WJZ, Channel 13, and WETA, Channel 26 in Washington.

MPT announced this week that callers volunteered 1,384,581 hours to assist teachers and other school programs. This exceeded by about 15 percent last year's 1.2 million hours pledged.
