Springfield reviewed, retains accreditation

Springfield Hospital Center "remains in accreditation," said Paula Langmead, assistant superintendent of the Sykesville -Z facility.

The Joint Commission on Accreditation Organization completed a four-day comprehensive survey -- the first in three years -- at the center Sept. 2.

"Although we have nothing in writing yet, the team made its recommendation and I have never known them to change after '' that," said Oscar Morgan, regional director for the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

In 1990, under superintendent Dr. Bruce Hershfield, Springfield earned its first JCAO accreditation in 10 years.

Dr. Hershfield is resigning to return to private practice Friday. Ms. Langmead will become acting director until his replacement is named.
