Marina seeks OK for improvements

The owners of Cadle Creek Marina off Rhode River are seeking permission to build a concrete and gravel boat ramp and make other improvements to their commercial boat facility.

They have asked the Army Corps of Engineers and other state and federal agencies to allow the widening of a fuel dock, the installation of rip-rap and cord grass and the repair of a section of bulkhead.

No new slips would be added.

The corps will accept public comment on the application until Oct. 8. For more information, call Jon Romeo at 962-6079.

Annapolis man's body found floating in creek

Authorities are investigating the death of an Annapolis man whose body was found floating in College Creek.

The body of Damon Verron Johnson, 29, was discovered about 9 a.m. Sunday by a passer-by on Rowe Boulevard near St. Anne's Cemetery.

Cpl. Wayne Jones, of the state Natural Resources Police, said the death is suspicious.

The body had unusual marks on it, but it was not clear what caused the marks, he said.

Mayor to recognize Day of Working Parent

Annapolis Mayor Alfred A. Hopkins will sign a proclamation today honoring the National Council of Jewish Women's National Day of the Working Parent.

"The National Council of Jewish Women has been committed to family and dependent care issues since its founding in 1893," said Leslie Gradet, president of council's Annapolis section. "We urge that Americans reinvest in our families -- they are our ultimate bottom line."
