Taneytown woman convicted of theft from ex-partner

A 28-year-old Taneytown woman was convicted yesterday of stealing more than $17,000 from a former business partner over two years.

Paula E. Koontz, of the 2000 block of Crouse Mill Road, pleaded not guilty to a single felony theft charge but allowed prosecutors to read a statement of facts with enough evidence to convict her.

Carroll Circuit Judge Raymond E. Beck Sr. imposed a suspended six-month sentence and ordered Ms. Koontz to pay her former partner $8,500 and serve two years of supervised probation.

According to court records, Ms. Koontz stole $17,938 from Cheryl Katherine Green between November 1990 and January 1992. The two operated a beauty shop, court records say.
