Dog shot after roaming in its neighbor's yard

A dog named Precious was shot in the neck with a pellet gun Monday afternoon by a neighbor who objected to the mixed collie-German shepherd roaming through his yard, county police said.

No charges were placed against the 35-year-old neighbor by police, but the owners of the dog can pursue the complaint on their own.

The owner of the dog, Gary Wayne Purdham, who lives in the 700 block of Washington Ave., said he took the dog to the veterinarian Tuesday after noticing a lump in the animal's throat.
