Granny style is back

September 09, 1993|By New York Times News Service

The granny dress was surely the success story of the summer. And there is more to come for fall. The next logical step is the return of granny boots. The foot-hugging, laced-front boots worn by women in the early 20th century and revived in the 1970s are having yet another revival. But they're meant to be worn with more than just granny dresses.

Check the fall catalogs from stores like Bloomingdale's and Neiman-Marcus and you'll see the boots worn with long skirts, wide-legged pants and leggings.

They're being shown for day in leather or suede, for evening in satin or velvet, and in combinations of materials.
