Players to watch 1993 high school girls soccer preview

Amy Adams, Broadneck, Sr., M -- A Bruins co-captain, Adams made all-state as a junior last year. The epitome of the team player, she has the willingness and ability to serve as playmaker and to distribute the ball.

Kristin Buckley, St. Mary's, Jr., M -- All-state as a sophomore, Buckley is the team's best passer and makes her presence felt all over the field. She moves well and has good field vision.

Melanie McMullen, North County, Jr., G -- A returning all-state player, she will anchor the defense. She's agile, reacts quickly and punts effectively.

Barb Muller, Arundel, Sr., F -- Her ball-handling skills are exceptional. Coach Paul Yannuzzi kiddingly likens her to Stan Stamenkovic, a soccer magician who played for the Blast in the 1980s.

Michelle Salmon, Old Mill, Sr., F -- The only player from the state to make the national under-16 team, according to Old Mill coach Bruce Sponsler, Salmon played the past two summers in Europe. Merely by being exposed to her, the other Old Mill players will benefit.

Shelley Seivert, Severna Park, Sr., M -- The team captain, Seivert was the stopper on the Falcons' defense that allowed only 11 goals in 15 games last year. She is playing midfield now in the hope she can spark the offense.

Kari Thompson, Archbishop Spalding, Sr., F -- She may be the team's best all-around athlete. With her ability and what coach Gino Drury calls the "fire in her belly," she is a potential college player.

Melissa Wagner, Chesapeake, Jr., F -- As a sophomore, she led the team in scoring and made all-state. The Cougars' offense will revolve around her.

Sheri Witt, Glen Burnie, Sr., M -- An aggressive player, she is Glen Burnie's top returning scorer. She will be guarded closely, so she must learn to pass quickly and then race ahead to receive a return pass.
