Faubert's goal lifts Mount to tourney title, 1-0

DURHAM, N.H. — EMMITSBURG -- Sophomore Mike Faubert scored late in the first half to lift host Mount St. Mary's to a 1-0 victory over Richmond yesterday in the championship game of the Holiday Inn Soccer Classic.

Faubert, who scored both Mount goals in its semifinal win over UMES Saturday, took a crossing pass from Dan Gaertner and beat goalie Scott Zimmer with 6:48 left in the half.

The Mountaineers' defense, led by the tournament's outstanding player, Karl Taverner, shut down the Spiders for the rest of the game.

Goalie Keith Kennedy was named to the all-tournament team, as were Greg Goles (John Carroll), Jim Stevenson and Faubert.

Loyola 7, Niagara 0

Sophomores Marc Harrison and Will Cirrincione combined for three goals and two assists, as Loyola (2-0, 1-0) shut out Niagara (0-1, 0-1) in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Curley Field.

The Greyhounds out-shot the Purple Eagles, 40-1, and held a 5-0 lead at the half.

DURHAM, N.H. -- Ryan Leib and Brian Young scored and New Hampshire (2-0) beat Navy (0-1-1) to win the New Hampshire Invitational.

Two Navy players were named to the all-tournament team, Jeff Wagner and Seth Walters.

BETHLEHEM, Pa.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Matt Phillips scored off a corner kick late in the first overtime period and St. Bonaventure (1-1) came from behind to beat Towson State (0-2) in Lehigh University's Nationscredit Soccer Cup Tournament.
