Plater's two touchdowns pace No. 12 Patterson to 27-6 victory

Senior wide receiver Stacey Plater scored two touchdowns yesterday to lead No. 12-ranked Patterson past host Edmondson, 27-6, in the season opener for both teams.

Junior quarterback Willie McGirt completed 11 of 18 passes for 186 yards and threw for three touchdowns.

Senior halfback Earl Smith rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.

The Clippers (1-0) are the defending MSA B Conference champions.

Centennial 19, Catonsville 8

Donald Culbreth ran for touchdowns of 2 and 9 yards and Brian Dowell added a 5-yard touchdown as Centennial (1-0) defeated host Catonsville (0-1).

L. Clifton 14, Southwestern 13

Kevin Estep completed five of six passes, including touchdowns of 40 and 48 yards, as Lake Clifton (1-0) edged host Southwestern (0-1).

St. Paul's 36, Hereford 0

Senior halfback John Solter rushed for 235 yards on 23 carries and had three touchdowns to lead St. Paul's (1-0) over visiting Hereford (0-1).

Walbrook 12, Southern 0

Senior halfback Eric Colclough had two touchdowns and ran for 112 yards on 15 carries, and senior linebacker Dorian Christen had 12 solo tackles to lead host Walbrook (1-0) over Southern (0-1).

Howard 42, Parkville 0

Running back Guy Smith ran for 130 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns as Howard (1-0) shut out host Parkville (0-1).

Howard quarterback Dalawn Parrish completed five of 10 for 50 yards and two touchdowns. Parrish also intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.

Parkville was unable to move the ball against Howard's defense, and was pushed back for an overall total of minus 45 yards.

Forest Park 26, Carver 16

Senior running back Robert Arthur III ran for 112 yards on 19 carries and had two touchdowns as Forest Park (1-0) beat Carver (0-1). Quarterback Newman Thompson completed four of six, including two touchdown passes to James Heath.

Fallston 27, Loch Raven 16

Brad Thomas passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Fallston (1-0) to a season-opening victory over visiting Loch Raven (0-1) in a non-league game.

Thomas, a senior, completed only two of eight passes, the first a 21-yarder to Ephriam Dorsey in the second quarter. In the third quarter, Dorsey ran 34 yards for a score, then later connected with Eran Vanderpool for a 7-yard score.

Catoctin 36, Spalding 6

Catoctin (1-0) rushed for 256 yards and completed four of seven passes, two for touchdowns, as it beat host Spalding (0-1). Brian Judy scored for Spalding on a 2-yard run.

Curley 26, Lansdowne 0

Senior running back Walt Ward ran for touchdowns of 18 and 43 yards as Curley (1-0) defeated host Lansdowne (0-1).

Brian Moyer and Donald Campbell also ran for touchdowns for the Friars.

Patapsco 28, Sparrows Point 6

Mike Shinsky rushed for 83 yards on eight carries to lead Patapsco (1-0) past Sparrows Point (0-1).
