POLICE

* Westminster: An East Green Street resident told police someone broke into her house Saturday while she was away and stole property valued at $1,585.

An official at the Carroll County Family Center on Distillery Drive reported to authorities that a video cassette recorder was stolen from their building Thursday. The loss is estimated at $250.

A Baltimore resident told police someone removed parts valued at $280 from his car while it was parked near Airport Drive on Sunday.

A stereo sound system was stolen from a Benson Road resident's vehicle while parked at Cranberry Mall Friday. The loss was estimated at $250.

Someone scratched the car of a Taneytown woman while the vehicle was parked in the rear of South Center Street on Saturday. The damage was estimated at $200.

Lauri Goldencrown of Finksburg told police a purse was stolen from her car while it was parked at Cranberry Mall on Sunday. The loss is estimated at $30.

FIRE

* Westminster: Westminster responded for a car fire on Route 32 at 5:04 p.m. Sunday. Units were out for 46 minutes.

A report of a building fire on the campus of Western Maryland College brought fire equipment from Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester at 6:37 p.m. Sunday. The cause of the alarm was a faulty heat detector in an air duct in Hoover Library. Units were out for 31 minutes.
