Prisoner flees while taking out garbage

When Duncan Latimer took out the garbage he "forgot" to come back, said officials of the Division of Correction as they searched for Latimer, a prisoner who fled Friday from the Central Laundry Facility in Sykesville.

Latimer, 54, 5 foot 9 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, was sentenced to 36 years in 1976 for robbery with a deadly weapon, forgery, uttering, theft and driving while intoxicated.

Officials said he served more than 16 years in various detentions centers and was sent to the laundry facility in May.

Latimer apparently fled on foot from the Sykesville laundry into a nearby field, police said.

A police dog unit searched the area unsuccessfully.

The laundry is one of 11 units in the Maryland Division of Correction prerelease system.
