Arson cited as cause of Eldersburg house fire

Arson caused a fire that resulted in $90,000 in damage to a vacant house in the 4100 block of Jim Bowers Road in Eldersburg Friday afternoon, Deputy State Fire Marshal Faron Taylor said yesterday.

The blaze, in a two-story brick house on land adjacent to the Morgan Run Natural Environmental Area, was discovered at 1:56 p.m. by a Department of Natural Resources ranger, he said.

An investigation into the arson continues. Mr. Taylor declined tgive further details about evidence in the case, saying that would compromise the investigation.

He said the home has been vacant since March.

It is owned by Kenneth Grimm of Westminster.

About 25 firefighters from Winfield, Gamber and Sykesvillresponded to the blaze and were on the scene for more than two hours.


* Eldersburg: Winfield responded to a trash fire on Jim Bowers Road at 7:36 p.m. Friday. Units were out for one hour.

* Sykesville: Sykesville was called to a trash container fire on Springfield Avenue at 9:56 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 20 minutes.
