Accomplishments: In his role as student associate to the Howard County school board, Doug will sit in on meetings involving redistricting, operating budgets and other issues that affect schools and students.

He got his start last year as Centennial's student representative to the school board and as a member of the Howard County Association of Student Councils. This year, he also serves on the executive board of the Maryland Student Association of Student Councils.At Centennial, he's a member of the Human Relations Club and the secretary for the Student Government Association.

Soccer is a big part of his life. He plays center midfield for the school's varsity team and was a member on the state's Olympic Development Team, which culls players from high schools across Maryland to compete against other state teams. He also plays guard for the junior varsity basketball team.

Outside of school, he volunteers at the Grassroots homeless shelter, where he helps cook dinner once a month and helps distribute Christmas baskets. He volunteered as a soccer coach at a Special Olympics camp last year.

Plans: Doug hasn't picked a university to attend, but he'd like to play soccer in college and study political science. He also would like to attend law school.

Comments: "I feel strongly that students in Howard County need to step up, not through my position, but across the board and try to influence the decisions of the school board. The school board seems to have a small generation gap."
