Laurel rescue team wins international competition

A four-man team representing the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad recently defeated 25 teams from the United States, Canada and the Virgin Islands to capture first place in the International Rescue and Emergency Care Association competition in Richmond.

Members of the winning team were John Harding, captain of the squad's emergency-care unit; David Morgan; Adam Globerman; and Rich Takacs.

The competition began with a 200-question exam that included questions on anatomy, emergency treatment and legal issues. Next the team was presented with two simulated emergencies and evaluated on how well it handled them.

Women's teams from Laurel won this competition in 1971 and three times in the '60s.
