Walters auditions for 'Passport to Paris' playwrights forum set for Sept. 11

The Walters Art Gallery will audition actors for "Passport To Paris," a play which incorporates works of art into its plot, Sept. 9-11. The production calls for one man, over 40; a man aged 18-30; a man over 30 and a woman over 30. It will run Sunday afternoons from Oct. 24 to May 15 in the gallery's 19th-century European art galleries.

The production also needs a stage manager.

For auditions, actors should prepare a two-minute speech from classical theater as well as readings from the play, which will be available at the gallery Sept. 7. Playwrights Tim Kelly, John Strand, Joe Palka, Harry Bagdasian, Karen Evans and Mary Hall Surface are among panelists and moderators scheduled for an all-day playwrights conference Sept. 11 at the Hartke Theatre of Catholic University of America in Washington.

Sponsored by the Playwrights Forum, a nonprofit organization devoted to developing playwrighting in the Baltimore-Washington area, the conference will offer six panel discussions on various aspects of the business side of playwrighting.

Participants will learn about submitting manuscripts; pinpointing potential producers; copyright and tax laws; self-production and commissions; and grants and contests.

Other guest panelists include Marcia Gardner, literary manager of Signature Theatre; Bill Talbott, senior staff member of Samuel French; literary agent Jason Fogelson; and attorneys Larry Yanowich and Arnold Litzger.

Catonsville Community College's Barnstormer Theatre Group will hold auditions for "Our Town" from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Sept. 7-10 at the fine and performing arts center theater (Q building) at 800 S. Auditions for Harbour Theatre's production of "Noises Off" are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at 106 Bloomsbury Ave., Catonsville. The production calls for four women aged 20-60 and five men aged 30-60 who can speak in a British accent and perform broad physical comedy. The production will run Nov. 19-Dec. 11.
