4 charged in yacht agency robbery

County police charged four people with robbing a Rose

Haven yacht agency Wednesday morning.

Jerome T. Johnson, 20, of the 900 block of Bayard Road in Lothian, Brian G. Mills, 20, of the 1200 block of Vintage Drive in Harwood, Alfonzo L. Brown, 17, of the 5500 block of Cherry Hill Road in Sunderland and a 15-year-old boy were charged with robbery and possession of a sawed-off shotgun, police said.

According to the police report, officers were called to the Harbor Yacht Agency on Lake Shore Drive shortly after the 10:40 a.m. robbery.

Witnesses gave police a description and license plate number of the getaway car. Officers found it was registered to Brian Mills.

They found the four suspects at Mr. Mills' home and searched the car, seizing a sawed-off shotgun and ski masks, as well as money, police said.

Yanowitz awarded Tilghman Bowl

Melissa Yanowitz of Annapolis has been awarded the Tilghman Bowl by the Junior League of Annapolis.

League members cited her as the "active member who has performed community service most representative of the goals and ideals of the Junior League of Annapolis."

Among her many volunteer efforts, Ms. Yanowitz has volunteered with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Human Relations Committee for the City of Annapolis, and has collected coins from the Annapolis Mall fountain for the Junior League.

* The league also has named its 1993-'94 board of directors. Sherrie Smith is president; Betsy Lanham, president-elect; Heidi Berry, secretary; Carolyn Heim, treasurer; Linda Fuller, assistant treasurer; Joan Ruch, member-at-large; Nancy Baudean, communications vice president; Donna Glazer, community impact vice president; Lee Schwall, financial resources vice president; RoJean Holler, membership vice president; Kim Michie, nominating director; and Marilyn Blandford, sustaining vice president.

* The league is looking for new members during its annual membership drive running through Sept. 6. Membership is open to women ages 21-45 interested in volunteerism.
