A Virginia woman remained in critical condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore yesterday after her car was struck by a dump truck in Annapolis Junction late Monday afternoon.

Mari Jean Kerwin, 24, of the 1700 block of Cool Spring Drive in Alexandria was attempting to make a left turn onto Dorsey Run Road from Junction Drive at 5:20 p.m. when her Mazda RX7 crossed the path of a dump truck traveling south on Dorsey Run Road, Howard County police said.

The truck hit the Mazda's driver-side door and spun the two-door car.

Ms. Kerwin was taken by ambulance to Greater Laurel Beltsville Hospital in Laurel, but she was soon flown to the trauma unit at University of Maryland Medical Center.

The truck driver, Thomas William Burke, 35, of the 17900 block of Garden Lane in Hagerstown, was not seriously injured.

Mr. Burke refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.

Police are investigating the accident.
