BOYERTOWN, Pa. -- The Mayo American Legion Baseball Team was six outs away from elimination in The Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament yesterday, but the offensive awakening they have been waiting for finally occurred.

Mayo scored eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 9-3 lead and hold on for a 9-5 win over Delaware Post One from Wilmington.

The Wildcats loaded the bases with one out in the eighth and got their first run when Jim Greer scored on a wild pitch. J.P. Noon walked to reload the bases and Lee Haney followed with a single to drive in Wade Rolocut and knot the score at three.

Two bases loaded walks later, Mayo had a 5-3 lead and Mike Cozzone increased it to a 6-3 with a single over a drawn-in infield. Tim Giles hit a sacrificed fly to left to score Jeff Hedrick and Jim Taylor and Cozzone were chased home on Greer's single.
