Parents and students are invited to an orientation at Waugh Chapel Elementary School from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday.

Members of the staff will be on hand to present information and answer questions for newcomers to the school. A tour of the school also will be given.

The United Methodist Youth Fellowship of the Nichols Bethel United Methodist Church in Odenton recently elected officers for the new year.

They are: Kathy Higgins, president; Jeff Griffith, senior high representative; and Danny Davis, junior high representative.

The youth fellowship is active throughout the year, with camping trips, hiking, retreats and a lot of discussions planned.

Youth group meetings are on Sunday evenings in the church hall. The junior high youth fellowship meets at 4 p.m., dinner is at 5:30 p.m., youth choir is at 6 p.m., and senior high youth fellowship follows at 6:30 p.m.

The Knights of Columbus, Archbishop Francis P. Keough Council, in Odenton is having dances the second Friday of each month in the council home, 1381 Becknel Ave.

The next dance is Sept. 10. Music of the '50s and '60s will be provided by Chaz the Entertainer.

Admission is $7.50 per person, which includes beer, soda and hors d'oeuvres. All proceeds from the dance will be set aside for a Catholic student scholarship fund.

The Fort Meade Retired Officers' Wives' Club will begin its 1993-94 year with a welcome coffee held by the Executive Board at 10 a.m., Sept. 7, at the Fort Meade Officers' Club.

Reservations are a must, and can be made by calling a member of the Luncheon Reservation Committee.

Meade Senior High School will welcome incoming freshmen and their families to an Orientation Night, at 7 p.m., Thursday.

Newcomers will have the opportunity to preview the school year, meet administrators, faculty and other staff and experience an overview of life as a Meade student.

Extracurricular sponsors (coaches and club advisers) will be on hand to provide information about clubs, teams and sports. Tours of the school also will be offered to familiarize new students with the school.

The Sons of the American Legion at the Howard L. Turner American Legion Post 276 in Severn recently held elections.

The officers for 1994 are: Dave Kreitzer, commander; Jack Czyryca, first vice commander; Vernon Childers, second vice commander; Mike Arbogast, adjutant; Charles Bell, finance; Mark Sprucebank, chaplain; Dan Seeley, sergeant-at-arms; Terry Barney, historian; and Bill Arbogast and Keith Stone, advisers.

The Arundel Fall Craft Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 9, at Arundel Senior High.

Reservations will be accepted through Sept. 15 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Only 150 spaces for handcrafted items will be available.

The cost is $20, nonrefundable. All tables are indoors.

Food will be sold in the cafeteria by the Arundel Band, and child care for children ages 1 to 6 will be available in the "Kids Room," supervised by Key Club members.
