The Associated Press erroneously reported Sunday and yesterday that IndyCar announced the resignation of William Stokkan, its chairman and chief executive officer. IndyCar announced that Stokkan would not seek a contract extension beyond the 1994 season as chairman and chief executive officer, but he remains in those posts.

Baseball California Angels -- Recalled 1B J.T. Snow from Triple-A Vancouver. Optioned 1B Ty Van Burkleo to Vancouver.

Colorado Rockies -- Purchased the contract of P Mike Munoz from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Optioned P Curtis Leskanic to Colorado Springs.

Detroit Tigers -- Placed P Kurt Knudsen on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow. Activated P Bill Krueger from the 15-day DL.


San Francisco Giants -- Placed OF Darren Lewis on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Aug. 20, with right shoulder inflammation. Recalled C Craig Colbert from an injury rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Phoenix and activated him from the disabled list. Sent P Bud Black to Single-A San Jose for an injury rehabilitation assignment.


Cincinnati Bengals -- Waived K Jim Breech.

Detroit Lions -- Waived RB Shaumbe' Wright-Fair, WR Demeris Johnson, G Mark White, K Sean Conley, P Mike Riley, LB John Derby, DL Joe Jacobs, DL Kyle Moore, DL Don Reynolds, CB Alonzo Hampton and CB Dwayne Ware.

New Orleans Saints -- Signed CB Reginald Jones to a one-year contract, beating an 11 p.m. deadline that would have suspended him for an additional game during the regular season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- OL Anthony Munoz announced his retirement.


IndyCar -- William Stokkan, the chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the IndyCar series, announced he will not seek to renew his position after his term expires on Dec. 31, 1994.


Pacific-10 Conference -- Placed the University of Washington football program on two years' probation for major rules violations.

Washington -- Announced that football coach Don James has resigned. Named defensive coordinator Jim Lambright football coach.
