Israeli youth ensemble to perform

Rishon LeZion Symphonic Youth Orchestra, a 45-piece Israeli wind ensemble composed of 13- to 18-year-olds, will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 31 at Oseh Shalom synagogue in Laurel.

Directed by Aharon Alkalai, the orchestra is from Rishon LeZion, a city southeast of Tel Aviv.

The group's first visit to the United States is sponsored by B'nai B'rith's 150th anniversary celebration. It will include performances in the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia areas.

Guilford:9600 block of Hastings Drive: Someone pried open a rear sliding glass door Wednesday or Thursday while the residents were away on vacation. There was apparently no entry, police said.

Scaggsville:8400 block of Heatherwold Drive: Someone pried open a storage shed and stole a saw late Wednesday or early Thursday.

8400 block of Rooster Court: Someone broke into a storage shed between Aug. 15 and Thursday, but nothing was taken.
