Police probing two armed robberies

Howard County police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred in the Ellicott City and Elkridge areas last week.

At 5:40 p.m. Thursday, an armed man entered a High's store in the 3000 block of Rogers Ave. and demanded that the clerk give him money from a cash register, police reported. The man and was last seen walking toward the Normandy Shopping Center. The suspect was described as a black male, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 190 to 200 pounds, with a dark complexion and short hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and red shorts and carrying a gray bag.

About 2:30 a.m. Friday morning, two men entered the Hillside Motel in the 6600 block of Washington Blvd. and requested a room. One of the men pulled out a gun and placed it against the clerk's side, police said.

The two men demanded money from the register, police said. After the clerk complied, the men ordered the employee into a back office and ran away. The first suspect was described as a white male in his 30s, 6 feet tall, with a muscular build, wearing a red shirt and a red bandanna on his head. The second man, also described as a white male, was in his late 30s, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, 150 pounds with brown hair and wearing a blue short-sleeve shirt, police said.

Man attacks girl, steals her bicycle

An 11-year-old Elkridge girl riding her bicycle in the 6600 block of Washington Blvd. was attacked and robbed by a man who jumped from the bushes at 8 p.m. Wednesday, police reported.

The man punched the girl in the face and rode off on her $89, 24-inch, Huffy 12-speed bike, police said. The girl received minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

She described her attacker as a black male in his mid-teens, about 5 feet 3 inches tall, with black hair, brown eyes and all black clothing.

Mount de Sales student wins bronze in run

Mount de Sales Academy student and Ellicott City resident Lori Furletti won a bronze medal in the 3,000-meter run at the Maryland State Games Track and Field Competition at Towson State University this month.

Lori also attended a weeklong cross-country camp at Pennsylvania State University, as did fellow Ellicott City resident Katy Domerchie.

*Elkridge: 5800 block of Bellanca Drive: The sliding glass window of a concession building at the Watermont Swim Club was removed and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken Wednesday or Thursday.

6200 block of Winters Lane: Someone broke into a residence between Aug. 15 and Thursday and stole jewelry. There were no signs of forced entry.

*Ellicott City: 9100 block of U.S. 40: A gray 1990 Buick LeSabre with tags ZKV176 was stolen just after 6 p.m. on Thursday from the parking lot of Chatham Mall. Next to where the stolen Buick had been parked, police found a 1985 Chrysler LeBaron that had been stolen from Baltimore County about 5 p.m. that same day. The LeBaron's engine was still running when police found it.
