A 44-year-old Southwest Baltimore man was arrested Friday and charged with breaking into a Sykesville house in January and stealing cash, jewelry and electronics equipment.

State police said they arrested John Howard Metcalf at his home in the 1900 block of W. Lombard St. and filed multiple charges against him.

Investigators said they intend to charge a second suspect believed to have been connected with the burglary. That suspect currently is jailed in the Baltimore County Detention Center in an unrelated case.

Investigators said evidence discovered at the scene of the Sykesville burglary led to the identification of the two suspects, although none of the property stolen in the break-in was recovered in a search-and-seizure raid at Mr. Metcalf's home early Friday.

Mr. Metcalf was being held Friday in the Carroll County Detention Center. His bond was set at $10,000.

Investigators at the Westminster state police barracks said they noticed similarities in the Sykesville burglary and burglaries in Baltimore County and initiated a joint investigation with Baltimore County police, which led to the arrests.
