25 Years Ago (Week of Aug. 11-17, 1968):

* Seven people were arrested in the county for alleged possession of narcotics. County police reported that three teen-agers in the Wilde Lake area were caught with a "sizeable quantity" of marijuana and hashish.

50 Years Ago (Week of Aug. 15-21, 1943):

* Joseph Patterson of Silver Spring opened a new meat store on Main Street in Ellicott City, renting the store known as Kraft's Meat Market, as well as the Krafts' slaughterhouse on Columbia Road. (The former Kraft's Meat Market now houses The Source Unlimited.)

* Howard County citizens were being asked to contribute used musical instruments for use in Army and Navy camps and hospitals. During the first week of the campaign, countians contributed an upright piano, two phonographs with records and three harmonicas.
