Around the house

* Remove dust from silk or dried flower arrangements. Use a hand-held hair dryer to blow off dust before vacuuming.

* Rid dishcloths and sponges of sour odors by soaking them in a solution of 3 tablespoons baking soda and 1 cup warm water.

* Look for raised nails in outdoor siding and trim. Replace old nails with galvanized ones that are the next size larger to prevent loose boards.

* Remove fresh pet urine stains on carpets. Mix 2 cups white vinegar with 1 gallon of water. Immerse clean cloth in solution, wring out excess and sponge off spots.

* Clean aluminum strips around sliding glass doors with silver polish.

In the garden

* Continue weeding through summer, so the weeds don't go to seed and produce a new crop for next year.
