Chicago Cubs -- Traded OF Candy Maldonado to the Cleveland Indians for OF Glenallen Hill.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Released P Dave Otto. Activated P Paul Wagner from the 15-day DL.

Denver Nuggets -- Acquired former Maryland F Brian Williams from the Orlando Magic for G Todd Lichti, F Anthony Cook and a second-round draft pick in 1994.

Houston Rockets -- Announced that Calvin Murphy has rejoined the club and will continue in his charitable community service activities. He had been fired two weeks ago by new owner Lee Alexander, who subsequently changed his mind, saying he had made a mistake.

Los Angeles Clippers -- Named Johnny Davis and Dave Wohl assistant coaches.

Colleges

Metro Conference -- Extended the contract of commissioner Ralph McFillen for two years, through the 1994-95 academic year.

Florida State -- President Dale Lick resigned, a month after he withdrew as a finalist to head Michigan State amid a controversy over the following 1989 remark: "The muscle structure of the black athlete typically is more suited for certain positions in football and basketball."

Michigan -- Starting LB Greg McThomas has left the team.

North Carolina State -- F Chuck Kornegay (8.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg), on academic probation since Jan. 7, won't return.

Pittsburgh -- Mike O'Brien, director of development for athletics, resigned to become director of athletics at Lamar.

Towson State -- Named former NBA All-Star Adrian Dantley men's assistant basketball coach. Announced that Kurt Beathard will coach the football secondary and return teams. Announced the signing of gymnast Sari Lehmuskallio.

Atlanta Falcons -- Signed WR Andre Rison for two years.

Buffalo Bills -- Waived QB Matt Rodgers.

Chicago Bears -- Cut five free agents: PK Scott Bonnel, T Mike DeHoog, LB Tim Paulk, LB Rico Mack and FB Greg Zomalt.

Cincinnati Bengals -- Reportedly signed RB Harold Green to a three-year, $4.1 million deal.

New England Patriots -- Promoted Bobby Grier to director of pro scouting and Joel Collier assistant director of pro personnel and player assistance director. Released DE Marion Hobby.

New Orleans Saints -- Cut two free agents: WR Fernando Evans and WR Tre Everett.

New York Giants -- Agreed to terms with OT Jumbo Elliott.

New York Jets -- Waived RB Kerry Henderson, G Reggie Redding and LB Shawn Williams.

Washington Redskins -- Acquired QB Rich Gannon from the Minnesota Vikings for a draft choice.

Arizona Rattlers (AFL) -- Announced that RB Stump Mitchell, who had a franchise record 11,988 combined yards in eight seasons with the St. Louis and Phoenix Cardinals, is retiring.

New York Rangers -- Named Al Hill coach of AHL Binghamton.

Tampa Bay Lightning -- Signed F Petr Klima to a multi-year contract extension.

Vancouver Canucks -- Announced that Pat Quinn will remain as coach. Named Ron Smith full-time assistant coach. Signed RW Jose Charbonneau and invited him to camp.
