2 young boys charged in separate knife attacks

Two young boys have been charged as juveniles with assault, battery and assault with a deadly weapon after separate incidents on South Center Street, Westminster police reported yesterday.

On Monday, an 11-year-old boy and a 10-year-old boy were wrestling when the younger boy left, ran to his house on South Court Street and returned minutes later with a kitchen knife that he allegedly began swinging at the 11-year-old, police said.

The 10-year-old's sister disarmed the boy and took the knife home, police said.

Investigators said the older boy then struck the 10-year-old, who again ran home and returned with the knife.

The knife again was taken from the younger boy.

In the other incident Aug. 12, a 9-year-old boy was charged after he and several other youths were playing a game inside a house on South Center Street when the youth allegedly became annoyed, loud and disorderly.

According to police reports, the boy left the house and returned minutes later wielding a kitchen knife, which he swung at 13-year-old. The knife cut a hole in the older boy's shirt, police said.

Neither of the boys was injured in the knife attacks.

Each youth was released into the custody of his parents pending juvenile court hearings.
