Spencer returns from mission in Reno, Las Vegas CENTRAL--Union Mills * Westminster * Sandymount

August 18, 1993

Rory "Jeff" Spencer, of Westminster, recently returned home after a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended missionary training classes at Brigham Young University at Provo, Utah.

Mr. Spencer went to Reno, Nev., for five months, then to Las Vegas for the remainder of his studies.

"It was the best two years of my life," he said. "It was interesting to work with other missionaries and I learned not to be bothered by anyone else's habits. It was totally different to think about other people and not about self."

His days were spent doing community service, helping with boys' clubs, at libraries and schools, teaching English as a second language, adopting highways for cleanup and helping the elderly around their homes.

Mr. Spencer plans to attend community college in Amherst, Ohio, where his parents moved last spring. From there he plans to attend Ohio State, then return to Brigham Young to study medicine.

His parents, Nancy and David Spencer, with his brothers, returned to Westminster to hear his report on his studies at his home church. A reception was held afterward.
