UCLA -- Suspended DL Bruce Walker for the academic year and LB Jamir Miller for the first game of the season. Walker pleaded no contest last week in Superior Court to one felony count of receiving stolen property, and Miller pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property.

Chicago Bears -- Traded OT Stan Thomas to the Atlanta Falcons for undisclosed terms.

Cincinnati Bengals -- Released WR Mark Duper, OT Kirk Scrafford and PK Roman Anderson.

Cleveland Browns -- Traded DT George Williams to the New England Patriots for LB Rob McGovern. Released DB Fred Foggie.

Green Bay Packers -- Signed OT Tootie Robbins to a one-year contract. Rescinded their rights to OG Ron Hallstrom, making him a free agent. Waived OL Dan Fike, CB Tracey Sanders, RB Latin Berry, OT Rory Graves, WR Orlando McKay and DE George Rooks.

Houston Oilers -- Signed RT David Williams to a two-year deal.

Miami Dolphins -- Waived NT Mitchell Benson.

FIFA -- Fined the Brazilian and Bolivian associations $16,000 each for allowing two players -- Brazil's Armelino Qoagliato "Zettie" and Bolivia's Miguel Angel Rimba -- to drink a common tea with a coca-leaf base. The drink resulted in their testing positive for cocaine.

Track and field

IAAF -- Suspended four athletes for drug use. Dutch discus thrower Erik de Bruin, the silver medalist at the 1991 championships, along with Nigerian high hurdlers Ime Akpan and Godfrey Okugbe, were given four-year bans, and Nigerian shot putter Vivian Chukwuemeka was banned for three months.
