Noel Gressieux elected head of CCGH staff

August 17, 1993

Noel Gressieux, who has practiced orthopedic surgery at Carroll County General Hospital for 18 years, was recently elected president of the hospital's medical staff.

A Carroll County resident, he has maintained a private practice in Westminster since 1975 after completing residency at Sinai Hospital with rotations through Francis Scott Key, Johns Hopkins and James Kernan hospitals in Baltimore. He also is the former chief of the Department of Surgery at CCGH.

Dr. Gressieux said his most immediate goal as president is increasing physician support for the hospital's expansion projects, especially the Emergency Room and Operating Room. He plans to work closely with hospital administration to coordinate seminars and workshops to keep the medical community current about issues in health care reform.

He succeeds radiologist Dr. Edward Carter, who was medical staff president for three years. Other medical staff leaders for this year are Dr. Thomas Galvin, who was elected vice president, and radiologist Dr. Harry Knipp, secretary-treasurer.

Members at large are Dr. William Conyers, a family practice doctor from Hampstead, and Dr. Reynaldo Madrinan, a Westminster urologist.

Drs. Galvin and Carter also are physician liaisons on the hospital's board of directors.

Dr. Khalil Freiji was chosen by the department of medicine as its chairman. Department chiefs returning to office are: Dr. Sarva Girdhar, surgery; Dr. Sang Lee, obstetrics and gynecology; Dr. Richard Jones, pathology; Dr. Robert Kass, family practice; Dr. Jose Gonzalez, pediatrics; Dr. Edward Carter, radiology; Dr. Michael Stang, emergency medicine; and Dr. Sheldon Glass, psychiatry.

Their one-year term of office will conclude June 30, 1994, concurrent with the hospital's fiscal year.
