GOP nominates Hill as Ward 5 alderman candidate

With a new candidate running for alderman from Ward 5, the Annapolis GOP yesterday said that it has one of the largest candidate slates in memory.

The Republican Central Committee yesterday nominated G. William Hill to run in Ward 5 against incumbent Democratic Alderman Carl O. Snowden.

Republican candidates are now running for mayor as well as alderman in seven wards. Only Ward 2 is without a GOP candidate, said Heidi Berry, central committee chairwoman.

Mr. Hill, a 46-year-old political newcomer and teacher at Old Mill High School, said his issues would include economic growth without taxation, and education as a way to combat drug abuse.

Although Aug. 2 was the deadline to file for city races, central committees are given extra time under the City Code to recruit and nominate candidates, Ms. Berry said.
