3 Democrats gain places on primary ballot

The Annapolis Board of Supervisors of Elections has approved the residency qualifications of three Democratic aldermanic candidates, earning them spots on the Sept. 21 primary ballot.

The board voted to approve Michael T. Brown, Ward 6; Gertrude E. "Trudi" McGowan, Ward 4; and Richard L. Staisloff II, Ward 7.

Republican officials had questioned whether the candidates were living in their respective wards as of May 2, six months before the election, as required by the city charter.

Crofton man charged after boat hits jetty

Maryland Natural Resources police charged a Crofton man with negligent operation of his boat early Sunday after the 26-foot Sea Ray hit a stone jetty in Rockhold Creek off Herring Bay in Deale about 2 a.m.

Robert Michael Brown, 36, of Jones Falls Court, also wacharged with reckless endangerment and failure to post a proper lookout, said police spokesman Michael O'Brien.

A female passenger suffered minor injuries. Neither Mr. Brown nor a male passenger was injured.

O'Brien said that the boat was traveling 25 mph when it hit the jetty and that the officer who responded said that was too fast for conditions on the creek.
