With the pressure lessened on day two, Elinor Lees swept by the first day's leader -- and 1992 winner -- Sandy Bunting to win the Ocean Pines Ladies Golf Championship (OPLGA).

Ms. Lees won with a 95-90--185 two-day total, coming from behind Ms. Bunting, who had led by five strokes after the first day of play but finished with 90-97--187.

Ms. Lees says the pressure was less on the second day of the Aug. 2-3 tournament and it became a matter of competing and not thinking about the score. She caught Ms. Bunting on the ninth (27th) hole with a tap-in birdie while her competitor was having bogey problems. Ms. Lees took up golf three years ago.

Louise Yeatman won the First Flight with a 198; Mardie Davis took the Second Flight on a 208; and Tish Ewing prevailed in the Third Flight with a 222.

Also in the OPLGA, the Buddy Sass Classic went to (Class A) Lavern Powell, 94 gross, and Louise Yeatman, 70, net; (B) Joan Clark, 96, and Bobbie Feenick, 73 net; (C) Betty Johnson, 105, and Irene Marshall, 74; and (D) Betty Koontz, 107, and Debbie Bashaar, 81.

Pine Shore Golf staged its usual Sunday Morning Scramble, with two foursomes tied for the top spot at 7-under-par 53: Don Hall-Jim Carocci-Gene Kerin-Jack Brancato and Bryan Tapman-Bob Grover-Jim McLaren-George Groth.

The Pine Shore Ladies League Tuesday Scramble was won by Jane Ponton, Joan Steyer, Ellen Burns and Caroline Priddle with a par 60. Jack Reed, with Charlie Young, Art Johnson and Bob McIntyre, paced the Ocean Pines Monday Evening Scramble with a 2-under score of 28.

The Wednesday Morning Scramble went to John Zingo, Don Hall, August Wirthu and Bob Edwards with an excellent 50, a big 10 under par. Finally, the Just For Fun Co-ed Scramble was taken by Groth and Gini Tufts with Bob and Harriet Tremas with a 5-under 25.
