Severna Park jeweler hit by burglary

A thief used a rock to break the window of a Severna Park jewelry store early Wednesday and escaped with several pieces of gold jewelry, the latest of several "smash and grab" burglaries in the Severna Park area, police said.

Police had no suspects in the burglary at Complements Fine Jewelry Ltd. in the Severna Park Village in the 500 block of Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., but police said a video security camera recorded the robbery.

When an officer arrived, the burglar alarm was sounding but no suspect was found. A newspaper carrier told the officer that he had seen a brown Honda Accord leave the area.

Police had not determined the value of the missing jewelry.

Other Severna Park burglaries include two businesses hit Sunday in which glass front doors were smashed so the thief could enter. Thieves broke into Sea Colony Aqua Sports in the 800 block of Ritchie Highway and stole an unknown quantity of swimwear. A rack of size 42 men's suits was taken from Arthur's Clothing, in the 500 block of Ritchie Highway.

On Aug. 1 and July 25, a Rite-Aid store in the 500 block of Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. was burglarized. The thief entered by breaking glass in the front door.
