Annapolis man assaulted at Glen Burnie restaurant

An Annapolis man was in critical condition yesterday after being assaulted late Tuesday night in the parking lot of a Glen Burnie restaurant.

Craig Charles Dawsey had been talking to a waitress for several hours as he drank beer at O'Toole's Road House Restaurant in the 8400 block of Ritchie Highway, when the woman's boyfriend arrived and saw them, police said.

As Mr. Dawsey and the waitress left the restaurant about 3 a.m., a man approached them from the Crain Highway side of the parking lot and punched Mr. Dawsey in the face. Mr. Dawsey stumbled and fell to the pavement, striking his head. When paramedics found him, he was bleeding from an ear and had lost a large amount of blood.

The assailant, after hitting Mr. Dawsey, got into a 1993 black Thunderbird driven by the waitress' boyfriend. The waitress, who stayed with Mr. Dawsey until medical help arrived, told police her boyfriend had nothing to do with the assault. Police interviewed the boyfriend, but did not charge him.

Mr. Dawsey, 26, of the 500 block of Fawns Walk Road, was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical, but stable condition with a fractured skull, bruises and a blood clot in the front of his skull.

Police were searching for a man identified as Jimmy Hazel, 25, of the 400 block of Starwood Drive in Glen Burnie, for questioning.
