Little Orioles in title round AMATEUR BASEBALL

Chris Rice knocked in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning with a single and right fielder Billy Walter threw out the tying run at the plate in the bottom half of the inning to lift the Gunther-Kazmarek Little Orioles of Baltimore (64-6) over Puerto Rico, 3-2.

The win advances the Little Orioles into the championship round of the Continental Amateur Baseball Association 14-and-under World Series in Dublin, Ohio. Tony Coyne picked up the win and Chris Calvert a save in relief of Jared Vogt (19-1). Vogt took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before giving up a two-run homer. The Little Orioles opened championship-round play today against Division 1 champion Tennessee.

* The Yankee Rebels 13-and-under boys baseball team won the AABC Dale Murphy Invitational Tournament in Washington Township, N.J., yesterday by defeating the Brooklyn Bonnies in the championship, 20-2.
