Maryland Classic golf tournament will benefit Girl Scouts

The Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and WBAL-TV will sponsor the second annual Maryland Classic golf tournament on Sept. 22 at Turf Valley Country Club in Ellicott City.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shot gun start at 9 a.m. Participants must pre-register by Sept. 1.

Honorary chairman of the event is Butch Alsando, sports anchor for WBAL-TV. Honorary co-chairs are Sam Lacy, sports writer with The Afro-American newspaper and John Steadman, a sports columnist with The Sun.

Proceeds benefit the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland's Grants to Girls program, providing the financial assistance for girls to experience activities such as national and international travel, ecology and environmental projects, career exploration and mentoring programs. Corporate sponsorship ranges from $5,000 to $500 and $100 for an individual player.
