New Windsor mayor names Garver to planning panel NORTHWEST -- Taneytown * Union Bridge * New Windsor

All the seats on the New Windsor Planning Commission were filled as of Wednesday's council meeting. With the Town Council's approval, Mayor Jack A. Gullo Jr. appointed Paul G. Garver to the final seat.

Mr. Garver, 43, a stock clerk for the county, heads the town's community watch program. He is a lifelong New Windsor resident and graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in 1967.

A member of Linwood Brethren Church, he has coached baseball and softball for New Windsor Recreation Council for 20 years.

He was a candidate for council during the May election and was considered for the town clerk/treasurer position when longtime office-holder Richard Warehime retires at the end of the year.

Mayor Gullo appointed Mr. Garver to serve with Councilman Terry Petry and five other town residents.


* Taneytown: Taneytown firefighters responded to investigate report of smoke on Frederick Street at 9:14 p.m. Friday. They were out for 25 minutes.

Engines from Taneytown and Harney were dispatched to a house fire on West Feezer Road at 8:11 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 20 minutes.
