Cleveland Indians -- Exercised their option on manager Mike Hargrove for the 1994 season. Purchased the contract of P Julian Tavarez from Double-A Canton-Akron.
Oakland Athletics -- Acquired minor-league OF Jose Herrera of Single-A Hagerstown as the player to be named in the trade that sent OF Rickey Henderson to the Toronto Blue Jays for minor-league P Steve Karsay last Saturday.
San Francisco Giants -- Activated IF Mike Benjamin. Optioned IF Paul Faries to Triple-A Phoenix.
Seattle Mariners -- Signed OF Gerald Young to a Triple-A contract.
Texas Rangers -- Signed P Rick Reed and assigned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Placed Placed P Charlie Leibrandt on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Aug. 4, with tendinitis of the left shoulder. Purchased the contract of P Steve Dreyer from Triple-A Oklahoma City and announced he will start tomorrow. Moved OF Jose Canseco from the 15- to the 60-day DL.
Toronto Blue Jays -- Announced that IF Luis Sojo has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Syracuse.
Dallas Mavericks -- Agreed to terms with F Ron Jones.

FIFA -- Lifted the drug suspensions of two South American players -- Brazilian substitute G Zetti and Bolivian D Miguel Angel Rimba Alvis -- saying they apparently ingested cocaine in a tea designed to help offset altitude sickness. The tea is legal in their countries.
Cleveland Crunch (NPSL) -- Signed M Andy Schmetzer to a five-year contract.
