The Washington Capitals have signed goalie Olaf Kolzig and center Kevin Kaminski to one-year contracts, each with an option year, the club announced yesterday.

In addition, defenseman Jim Mathieson and center Martin Jiranek, both of whom played for the Skipjacks last season, returned their contracts. Left wing Bob Carpenter did not return his contract, choosing instead to become a free agent.

Kolzig, 23, was 25-16-4 with a 3.68 goals-against average with the AHL's Rochester Americans last season. He was the Capitals' first-round pick in the 1989 entry draft.

Kaminski, 24, had 27 goals and 37 assists with the Halifax Citadels last season.

Also, Caps draft picks defenseman Brendan Witt and center Jason Allison have been invited to the Canadian National Junior Team Camp at Lake Placid, N.Y., Aug. 16-22.
