August 05, 1993

Firefighters in northwest Carroll battled two stubborn blazes yesterday.

Units from Taneytown, Union Bridge, Harney and Rocky Ridge of Frederick County extinguished a burning wagonload of hay on the Keysville-Frederick County Road near Baumgardner Road. Taneytown and Union Bridge units were dispatched first, and tanker trucks from Harney and Rocky Ridge were asked to supply water to the crews.

Firefighters needed about two hours to extinguish the fire, which was reported at 3:21 p.m.

Earlier, Taneytown and Pleasant Valley firefighters were joined by two Adams County, Pa., companies for a shed fire on Stone Road near Kump Station Road. The 10:13 a.m. fire was extinguished in about 90 minutes.

Harney was called to assist Adams County after a report of smoke in a house on Chapel Road at 11:50 a.m., but returned 25 minutes later.

At 12:52 p.m., Harney assisted Frederick County on a building fire on Main Street in Emmitsburg.
