Hospital holds volunteer event, honors nurse

Springfield Hospital Center recently held its annual volunteer luncheon in the center's employee cafeteria. Lunch was served by the hospital's dietary department staff.

The annual Nursing Award was given to licensed professional nurse Barbara Johnson for her care of patients.

Incoming officers for the 1993-1995 term for the Auxiliary of Springfield Hospital Center were installed. They are: Margaret Guynn, president; Kathleen Colley, vice president; Kathryne Corbin, corresponding secretary; Martha Forthman, recording secretary; Dona Byron, treasurer; and Hilda Horton, assistant treasurer.

Nonprofit recycler accepting donations

The Loading Dock, a nonprofit building supply recycler, will accept selected items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Alpha Ridge Landfill Recycling Center in Marriottsville.

The Loading Dock accepts latex paint, lumber, plumbing fixtures, doors, windows and other usable building materials to create affordable low-income housing in the community. Receipts for tax-deductible contributions are issued.

* Sykesville: Sykesville, Winfield, Gamber and Lisbon of Howard County responded for a house fire on White Rock Road at 10:02 p.m. Tuesday. Units were out for 40 minutes.
