Ship to be commissioned at academy -- a first

The Naval Academy will have its first-ever ship commissioning Saturday when the Cyclone, a coastal patrol ship, is put into service.

The principal speaker at the 1 p.m. ceremony will be Adm. Frank B. Kelso II, chief of naval operations. The commissioning will be held at the Farragut Seawall, adjacent to the Robert Crown Sailing Center.

Seating is by invitation only. Standing room has been made available for the public on Farragut Field. After the ceremony, an open house will be held on board from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The 170-foot Cyclone is operated by a crew of 25 enlisted personnel

and four officers.

3 hunted by police after drug raid

County police have issued arrest warrants for a Mason's Beach woman and two others on drug charges.

Police reported raiding a house in the 600 block of Clark Ave. about 9 p.m. Tuesday and seizing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police are seeking Linda R. Collins, 37, and Harry J. Moon, 22, both of the Clark Avenue address, for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Officers also issued a warrant for a juvenile in the case.
