Presbyterians seek funds for Midwest flood victims

Led by Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park, several Presbyterian USA churches in Anne Arundel County are raising money for flood relief in the Midwest.

The project is tagged "MidWest U.S. River Floods," and cash donations and checks are being funneled into an account through Sunday morning church offerings.

"Thousands of people [in need] will once again depend upon the generosity of Presbyterian Christians to respond quickly . . . to this devastating crisis," says the church pastor, the Rev. Terry S. Schoener.

Local churches can supply goods and materials for the relief project, the minister said. The next stage will be a program calling for volunteer work crews to help with repairs.

Money raised through the county fund is being directed to the Presbyterian World Services Office in Louisville, Ky., where it is channeled to the needy areas.
