The county's 14-branch library system has tallied all the materials borrowed in 1992-93, and the total number would fill every bookcase in Central County: 5,167,699 items.

That's an increase in the last three years of almost a million items.

Locally readers continue to be traditional. The publication most often borrowed is a child's picture book. Next in line in popularity is adult fiction, followed by Gothic/romance, children's fiction and audio cassettes.

The busiest checkout desks were at the North County branch, where borrowing totaled more than 767,000 items, and the Annapolis branch, with nearly 744,000 checkouts.

On Aug. 20, members of Temple Beth Shalom will welcome their new cantor, Heather Feffer.

Cantor Feffer will be at temple services during the High Holy Days and for two weekends a month during the year.

"Music is an important part of the Jewish service and the feelings we have about Judaism," says Rabbi Robert G. Kensin.

9- Reach the temple by calling 410-974-0900.
