It's official. Maryland's men's basketball team will play Georgetown as part of a doubleheader on Nov. 26 or 27 at the USAir Arena. Russ Potts, president of Sports Productions, Inc., made the announcement yesterday.

The last time Maryland played Georgetown was in the 1980 NCAA tournament.

"This is a great game for college basketball, and especially the local community," said Maryland coach Gary Williams in a prepared statement. "The game has been awhile in the making, and I am really pleased we were able to accomplish scheduling of the game."

Said Maryland athletic director Andy Geiger: "I'm delighted that we are meeting Georgetown in men's basketball. It will be a fun day for the fans of the region. I hope it's the first in a series of games where traditional rivals get together for more than just a reunion."

West Virginia will play Virginia Tech as part of the Thanksgiving weekend doubleheader.

Potts also announced that Virginia will play Virginia Tech on March 2, 1994 at the USAir Arena.
